Successfully building your brand, connecting with others socially, and executing marketing tactics all take an immense amount of planning, effort and time. While doing these tasks can seem daunting, I have been fortunate enough to experience first hand how determination, drive and positive thinking can help you achieve your goals.
I come by my drive and determination honestly. Both my parents have consistently demonstrated those characteristics to me everyday of my life; especially in my formative years.
The power of positive thinking is another trait they've modeled to me over the years. Even to this day, my mom continually sends me letters, text messages, emails and FB chat messages to encourage me. She does this so naturally that she's really made it part of her DNA. She also reaches out to others to encourage them. She definitely sets the bar high and gives me something to aspire to become.
Each message I receive from her really helps me, too. Just this week I received an envelope from her that had a simple message about "The Power of Can." It began with this statement "You deserve good things."
Here's the rest of what she sent me:
"You have the power of can. Just like love or hope, potential is immeasurable and unlimited. Believe you can, and you will achieve so much more than you think--even more than you dreamed. There is no end to what you can accomplish when you know you can!"
Think about that for a moment. No matter what you are working on--"YOU have the power of can!"
You CAN achieve your goals. How do you do that? Simply set realistic goals and stay focused on consistently achieving them. Through the ups and downs, stay positive. As you work on your goals, pause to assess your progress, seek areas to tweak and make adjustments.
For instance, I've spent the past 20+ years building the brand of my clients doing marketing communications and public relations. Whether working in a company, through an agency, or for my own clients--I've always focused on others.
Just recently I decided it was time to apply what I've been doing for my clients to my own personal brand and expand my reach. It would be easy for me to get discouraged and think "this is too much work, why bother." But that would be the antithesis of who I was raised to be and who I am as a person.
So I've created a plan, set goals and am currently working to achieve them. (The simple act of having you reading my blog post is part of my goal.) I'm making a choice to embrace positive thinking and the power of can. I know that I have the ability to help myself along with my clients--I'm simply applying it.
You, too, can embrace the power of can. You CAN accomplish anything. You just have to apply yourself, and know that through hard work, determination, drive and positive thinking - it will all work out.
Remember, there is nothing wrong with reaching out to others to help you in your journey. As a business owner or team player in a company, you may want to take a class or even hire a consultant to help your connect with your customers. (Insert subtle hint here...:-)
And it wouldn't hurt to take the focus off yourself now and then by emulating what my mom practices so well. (Goodness knows I'm trying to do that.) Start by reaching out to one person every day. Help those you interact with see that they, too, have the power of can.
